Just before the start of the Jackson County Fair, McKayla Gilbertson was named the new Miss Jackson County and a new court was ushered in.

When she wasn't attending to her royal duties, Kayla was showing off the pigs and sheep she had raised, something that she said helped prepare her for being Miss Jackson County.

The title was a dream come true for Gilbertson, a Jackson county native who grew up watching the pageants and knew many of the women who came before her, hoping one day to hear her name called and a sash draped around her neck.

“I’ve always wanted to be on the court, so to win was really great,” Gilbertson said.

The crowning was the result of a lot of hard work on her part as she said how much time and effort she put into her interview and portfolio.
