Kidde has recalled more than 40 million fire extinguishers in the U.S. and Canada because the extinguisher can become clogged or require excessive force to discharge and can fail to activate during a fire emergency. The nozzle can also detach with enough force to pose an impact hazard.

The recall was made Nov. 2 and is for Kidde fire extinguishers with plastic handles and the push-botton Pindicator fire extinguisher.

For the plastic handle fire extinguishers, the recall involves 134 models manufactured between Jan. 1, 1973 and Aug. 15. The extinguishers were sold in red, white and silver and are either ABC- or BC-rated.

For the push-button Pindicator fire extinguishers, the recall includes eight models manufactured between Aug.
